Cascade Gives Back

Cascade members are proud to be involved in a variety of community charitable activities through projects and financial donations. Most recently members were invited to put on a quilt show at a Celebration of Life for a Rockynol resident.

Some members make small quilts for resident families at Ronald McDonald House; some make pillows for Akron General Medical Center’s cardiac care patients; and some make Christmas stockings for soliders serving oversees, in connection with the KISS Quilt Guild. Guild members have assembled wool blanket samples into ultra-warm blankets for the needy that are distributed by the St. Vincent DePaul Society.  Individuals in the guild also make quilts for infants of single mothers and blankets for patients at Children’s Hospital.

The Guild donated part of the proceeds from its 2010 Raffle Quilt to Holy Trinity Lutheran  Church in Akron.  Part of the proceeds from our 2009 quilt show were donated to an interfaith organization working with families in need. A portion of the proceeds for our 2011 raffle quilt were donated to the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank.

The Guild also donated funds for blankets to Ronald McDonald House last Christmas and to the National Quilt Museum to help preserve our quilting heritage.

Members make several blankets for Akron Children’s Hospital each year.  Joann’s recently gave us many quilt panels and flannel for backing.  Here’s just one of the blankets made.
