Cascade members are proud to be involved in a variety of community charitable activities through projects and financial donations. Recently, guild members volunteered at the Summit County Historical Society Mutton Hill Quilt Show booth at the 2015 ASPL Maker Faire. We distributed show information and talked to a variety of people interest in quilting.
Ruthann Benge has been making heart shaped pillows for breast cancer patients since 2012 when her close friend had breast surgery to remove a lump. The pillows are taken to the Cooper Cancer Center at Akron City Hospital and the Barberton Hospital.
She started a group to make them in her church Bible study, but most of them are stuffed by Mary Albrecht of Cuyahoga Falls. Some of her quilting friends have also helped her cut and sew. As of April 2017, they have made and donated over 1400 pillows. “Our goal is to bless one person at a time when they are hurting.”
